Effect of Elastic Band Combined with Bed Bike Exercise on Gastrointestinal Function and Nutritional Status in Patients Receiving Mechanical Ventilation in the ICU
Abstract:Objective: To observe the effect of elastic band combined with bed bike exercise on gastrointestinal function and nutritional status in patients receiving mechanical ventilation in the ICU. Methods: A total of 90 patients receiving mechanical ventilation treatment in the ICU of a hospital from February 2023 to February 2024 were selected as the study subjects. According to the random number table method, the patients were divided into a control group and an experimental group, with 45 patients in each group. The control group received routine treatment and nursing care, while the experimental group received elastic band combined with bed bike exercise. The incidence of gastrointestinal dysfunction, nutritional status, ICU mechanical ventilation time, and ICU hospitalization time were observed and compared between the two groups. Results: The incidence of gastrointestinal dysfunction (diarrhea, abdominal distension, abnormal bowel sounds, gastric retention) in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05). After intervention, the serum albumin, prealbumin, and hemoglobin levels in the experimental group were higher than those in the control group (P < 0.05), and the triceps skinfold thickness was greater in the experimental group than in the control group (P < 0.05). The ICU mechanical ventilation time and ICU hospitalization time in the experimental group were shorter than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Implementing elastic band combined with bed bike exercise in patients receiving mechanical ventilation in the ICU can effectively reduce gastrointestinal dysfunction, improve nutritional status, and shorten the ICU mechanical ventilation time and ICU hospitalization time.
