Effect of Three-in-One Nursing Intervention via WeChat Platform on Adherence to Pelvic Floor Muscle Exercise in Patients After Prophylactic Colostomy Reversal Surgery
Abstract:Objective: To explore the effect of a three-in-one nursing intervention model via WeChat platform on adherence to pelvic floor muscle exercise in patients after prophylactic colostomy reversal surgery. Methods: A total of 70 patients who underwent low anterior resection for rectal cancer with prophylactic colostomy reversal surgery from January 2022 to April 2024 were selected as the study subjects. They were randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, each with 35 cases. The control group received routine nursing via the WeChat platform, while the observation group received the three-in-one nursing intervention model via the WeChat platform on top of the control group's care. The adherence to pelvic floor muscle exercise, anal function scores [Wexner Score (WIS)] at 1, 3, and 6 months post-surgery, and fecal incontinence quality of life scores (FIQL) at 6 months post-surgery were compared between the two groups. Results: The adherence to pelvic floor muscle exercise in the observation group was 88.57%, which was higher than 62.86% in the control group (P < 0.05). The WIS scores of the observation group at 1, 3, and 6 months post-surgery were (13.47 ± 2.99), (8.95 ± 2.41), and (5.12 ± 2.34) points, respectively, all lower than those of the control group (P < 0.05). At 6 months post-surgery, the FIQL scores in all dimensions of the observation group were higher than those of the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The three-in-one nursing intervention model via WeChat platform can improve adherence to pelvic floor muscle exercise in patients after prophylactic colostomy reversal surgery, improve anal function, and enhance the quality of life.
