Evidence-Based Practice and Effect Evaluation of Physical Activity Management in Chemotherapy Patients
Abstract:Objective: To implement evidence-based clinical translation for the best evidence on physical activity in chemotherapy patients, and to explore its effectiveness in improving their physical activity. Methods: Based on the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Evidence-Based Healthcare Continuous Quality Improvement Model, the latest best evidence on physical activity in chemotherapy patients was collected, and nine review criteria were developed. From July to August 2022, a baseline review was conducted on 52 chemotherapy patients, designated as the baseline review group. Barriers to evidence implementation were analyzed, and corresponding evidence-based implementation plans were developed and applied. A post-evidence application review was conducted in October 2022, including 46 chemotherapy patients, designated as the evidence application group. Changes in various indicators between the two groups were compared. Results: After evidence application, patients' walking volume during hospitalization increased compared to the baseline review, while sedentary/bed rest time decreased, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). After discharge, the number of days per week with physical activity, the number of days with walking time exceeding 10 minutes, and the duration of moderate-intensity exercise increased compared to the baseline review, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Daily walking volume increased, sedentary time decreased, and the scores on the Simplified Fatigue Scale improved, with statistically significant differences (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The application of the best evidence on physical activity in chemotherapy patients improved their physical activity levels, reduced sedentary/bed rest time, and alleviated cancer-related fatigue symptoms.
