Effect of Isokinetic Strength Training Combined with Mirror Therapy on Balance and Self-care Ability in Patients with Hemiplegia After Stroke
Abstract:Objective: To explore the effect of isokinetic strength training combined with mirror therapy on balance ability and self-care ability in patients with hemiplegia after stroke. Methods: A total of 100 patients with early-stage hemiplegia after stroke treated in the hospital from January 2020 to December 2022 were selected as the study subjects. They were randomly divided into a combined group and a control group using a random number table method, with 50 cases in each group. The control group received isokinetic strength training, while the combined group received mirror therapy in addition to the control group's treatment. The balance function [Berg Balance Scale (BBS)], trunk control ability [Trunk Control Test (TCT)], skeletal muscle index (SMI), walking ability [Holden Functional Walking Scale (FAC)], and self-care ability (Barthel Index) were observed in both groups. Results: After 2 and 4 weeks of intervention, the BBS scores of both groups were higher than before the intervention (P < 0.05), and the BBS scores of the combined group were higher than those of the control group after 2 and 4 weeks of intervention (P < 0.05). After 2 and 4 weeks of intervention, the TCT scores of both groups were higher than before the intervention (P < 0.05), and the TCT scores of the combined group were higher than those of the control group after 2 and 4 weeks of intervention (P < 0.05). After 2 and 4 weeks of intervention, the SMI of both groups was higher than before the intervention (P < 0.05), and the SMI of the combined group was higher than that of the control group after 2 and 4 weeks of intervention (P < 0.05). After 2 and 4 weeks of intervention, the FAC classification of both groups was higher than before the intervention (P < 0.05), and the FAC classification of the combined group was higher than that of the control group after 2 and 4 weeks of intervention (P < 0.05). After 2 and 4 weeks of intervention, the Barthel Index scores of both groups were higher than before the intervention (P < 0.05), and the Barthel Index scores of the combined group were higher than those of the control group after 2 and 4 weeks of intervention (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Isokinetic strength training combined with mirror therapy can improve the balance function, trunk control ability, and walking ability of patients with hemiplegia after stroke, and enhance their skeletal muscle index and self-care ability.
