Application of Health Education Based on the Transtheoretical Model in Patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia Treated with Transurethral Plasma Kinetic Resection (PKRP)
Abstract:Objective: To explore the application effect of health education based on the transtheoretical model in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) undergoing transurethral plasma kinetic resection (PKRP). Methods: A total of 108 patients with BPH who underwent PKRP treatment from January to December 2023 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into an observation group (n=54) and a control group (n=54) using a random number table method. The control group received routine health guidance during the perioperative period, while the observation group received health education based on the transtheoretical model during the same period, with an intervention duration of 1 month. The self-efficacy [General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES)], adverse emotions [Self-Rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Self-Rating Depression Scale (SDS)], compliance with medical advice, prognosis, and quality of life [Short Form Health Survey (SF-36)] were compared before and after the intervention. Results: After the intervention, the GSES score, compliance with medical advice, and SF-36 score of the observation group were significantly higher than those of the control group (P<0.05). The SAS and SDS scores of the observation group after the intervention were significantly lower than those of the control group (P<0.05). The time to first flatus after surgery, the time to remove the indwelling urinary catheter, and the time to restore normal urination function were all shorter in the observation group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Health education based on the transtheoretical model can effectively enhance the self-efficacy of patients with BPH during the perioperative period, alleviate adverse emotions, improve compliance with medical advice, promote postoperative recovery, and improve quality of life.
