Abstract:Objective: To conduct a scoping review of the research on core competencies of advanced practice nurses at home and abroad, providing a basis for improving the training system of advanced practice nurses. Methods: Systematically retrieved literature related to the core competencies of advanced practice nurses in Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, the Cochrane Library, CNKI, Wanfang Database, VIP Database, and China Biological Medicine Database, with the search period from the establishment of the database to March 27, 2024. Results: A total of 30 papers were included. There is some heterogeneity in the theoretical frameworks, core competency categories, and specific content of advanced practice nurses' core competencies both domestically and internationally. After summarizing and categorizing, seven categories and 15 themes of core competencies for advanced practice nurses were finally extracted: clinical nursing practice ability, counseling ability, educational ability, research ability, leadership and management ability, communication and collaboration ability, and ethical, legal, and moral ability. Conclusion: The current core competency system for advanced practice nurses in China needs to be improved. It is recommended to refer to the content of core competencies of advanced practice nurses abroad and build a localized core competency system for advanced practice nurses in China, providing a basis for cultivating advanced practice nursing talents in China.
