Application of the Infant Posture Assessment Tool (IPAT) Positioning Combined with Self-made Auxiliary Devices in Preventing Plagiocephaly Syndrome in Preterm Infants
Abstract:Objective: To explore the application effect of the Infant Posture Assessment Tool (IPAT) positioning combined with self-made auxiliary devices in preventing plagiocephaly syndrome in preterm infants. Methods: A total of 72 preterm infants hospitalized in the neonatal department of the hospital from January to April 2024 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into an observation group and a control group, with 36 cases in each group. The control group received "U"-shaped nest and conventional posture management, while the observation group received IPAT positioning guidance for posture intervention and used self-made auxiliary devices to provide posture support to prevent plagiocephaly syndrome. The changes in the transcranial oblique diameter difference (CVA) and cranial index (CI) before and after posture management, the incidence of plagiocephaly syndrome after posture management, the accuracy rate of posture placement, and family satisfaction were compared between the two groups. Results: After posture management, the CVA and CI values of both groups decreased significantly (all P < 0.05), and the CVA and CI values of the observation group were significantly lower than those of the control group (all P < 0.05). The incidence of plagiocephaly syndrome in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (P < 0.05), and the accuracy rate of posture placement and family satisfaction were higher in the observation group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The application of IPAT positioning combined with self-made auxiliary devices has a significant effect in preventing the occurrence of plagiocephaly syndrome in preterm infants, which can improve the accuracy rate of posture placement, reduce the incidence of plagiocephaly syndrome, and enhance family satisfaction.
