Systematic Review of Assessment Tools and Rehabilitation Training for Dysphagia in Patients with Nasopharyngeal Cancer
Abstract:Objective: To systematically analyze the research on dysphagia in patients with nasopharyngeal cancer after radiotherapy, and to summarize the main assessment tools and rehabilitation intervention methods. Methods: Based on the framework of the scoping review methodology by Arksey and O'Malley, relevant studies were retrieved from the Cochrane Library, PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, China Biological Medicine Database, CNKI, Wanfang Database, and VIP Database. The search period was from the establishment of the databases to March 5, 2024. The included literature was summarized and analyzed. Results: A total of 11 studies were included. The results showed that the main assessment methods for dysphagia in patients with nasopharyngeal cancer after radiotherapy include the洼田饮水试验 (Water Swallowing Test), Food Intake Assessment Questionnaire, Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Study, Functional Oral Intake Scale, Chinese version of the MDADI (MD Anderson Dysphagia Inventory), and Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing. Intervention methods to improve dysphagia include electrical stimulation therapy, swallowing muscle training, comprehensive rehabilitation training, and expiratory muscle strength training. Conclusion: There are rich and diverse assessment tools for dysphagia in patients with nasopharyngeal cancer after radiotherapy. Clinicians should choose appropriate assessment methods for patients and take reasonable measures based on the assessment results to improve dysphagia.
