Application of Spousal Empowerment Cognitive Education in Patients with Cervical Cancer Undergoing Concurrent Chemoradiotherapy
Abstract:Objective: To study the effect of spousal empowerment cognitive education on patients with cervical cancer undergoing concurrent chemoradiotherapy. Methods: From January 2021 to January 2024, 100 patients with cervical cancer who received concurrent chemoradiotherapy at Jiujiang Maternal and Child Health Hospital in Jiangxi Province were selected as the study subjects. They were randomly divided into observation group and control group using a random number table method. The control group received routine nursing care, while the observation group received spousal empowerment cognitive education in addition to the control group's care. The intervention lasted until the completion of the patient's concurrent chemoradiotherapy. The incidence of negative emotions [evaluated by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS)], coping styles [measured by the Chinese version of the Medical Coping Modes Questionnaire (MCMQ) scores], hope levels [measured by the Herth Hope Index (HHI) scores], and quality of life [measured by the Functional Assessment of Cancer Therapy-Cervix (FACT-Cx) scores] were compared between the two groups. The occurrence of complications was recorded. Results: After the intervention, the incidence of suspected/possible anxiety (6.00%) and depression (2.00%) in the observation group was lower than that in the control group (20.83% and 16.67%, respectively) (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the scores for the 'confrontation' dimension in the MCMQ of the observation group [(22.85 ± 2.75) points] were higher than those of the control group [(17.21 ± 2.53) points], while the scores for the 'avoidance' [(10.28 ± 1.96) points] and 'yielding' [(8.21 ± 1.42) points] dimensions were lower than those of the control group [(13.33 ± 1.58) points and (10.88 ± 1.56) points, respectively] (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the HHI score of the observation group [(40.18 ± 2.12) points] was higher than that of the control group [(38.05 ± 2.51) points] (P < 0.05). During the intervention period, the complication rate in the observation group (8.00%) was lower than that in the control group (25.00%) (P < 0.05). After the intervention, the FACT-Cx score of the observation group [(118.29 ± 6.12) points] was higher than that of the control group [(114.32 ± 5.79) points] (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Implementing spousal empowerment cognitive education for patients with cervical cancer undergoing concurrent chemoradiotherapy has a significant effect, which is beneficial in reducing negative emotions, helping them face the disease positively, improving their hope level, reducing the incidence of complications, and improving their quality of life.
