Application of Functional Exercise Based on the Extended Theory of Planned Behavior in Patients Undergoing Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair
Abstract:Objective: To explore the application of functional exercise based on the extended theory of planned behavior in patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to select 96 patients who were admitted to the hospital from July 2022 to July 2023. Based on a random number table, the patients were divided into an observation group and a control group, with 48 patients in each group. The control group received routine functional exercise, while the observation group received functional exercise based on the extended theory of planned behavior. The two groups were compared before and after intervention in terms of exercise self-efficacy (General Self-Efficacy Scale, GSES), exercise adherence (Orthopedic Rehabilitation Exercise Adherence Scale), shoulder joint function (Constant-Murley Shoulder Function Score), range of motion of the shoulder joint, and activities of daily living (Barthel Index). Results: After intervention, the GSES score, Orthopedic Rehabilitation Exercise Adherence Scale score, Constant-Murley Shoulder Function Score, and Barthel Index score of the observation group were higher than those of the control group (P < 0.05). The maximum angles of external rotation, internal rotation, flexion, and extension of the shoulder joint in the observation group were significantly greater than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Functional exercise based on the extended theory of planned behavior can enhance the exercise self-efficacy and adherence of patients undergoing arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, thereby effectively improving their shoulder joint function and activity level, and enhancing their ability to perform daily activities.
