Analysis of the Relationship between Negative Emotions and Quality of Life in Elderly Patients with Stage 3 Hypertension and Their Caregivers Using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM)
Abstract:Objective: To study the impact of negative emotions of elderly patients with stage 3 hypertension and their caregivers on quality of life using the Actor-Partner Interdependence Model (APIM). Methods: A total of 122 elderly patients with stage 3 hypertension and their caregivers who received treatment at Yingtai People's Hospital from March 2020 to September 2023 were selected as the study subjects. The Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF (WHOQOL-BREF) were used to conduct the survey, and an APIM model was constructed to analyze the effect of negative emotions on quality of life. Results: The total scores and scores of each dimension of HADS in patients were higher than those of caregivers (P < 0.05), while the total scores and scores of each dimension of WHOQOL-BREF were lower than those of caregivers (P < 0.05). Pearson correlation analysis showed that negative emotions of both patients and caregivers were negatively correlated with quality of life (all P < 0.05). Additionally, patients' negative emotions were positively correlated with caregivers' negative emotions and negatively correlated with caregivers' quality of life (P < 0.05), while caregivers' negative emotions were negatively correlated with patients' quality of life (P < 0.05). Actor-partner interdependence effect analysis showed that for patients, k1 = 1.666, 95% CI [0.599, 5.907], which is within the confidence interval, indicating a dyadic pattern. For caregivers, k2 = 0.505, 95% CI [0.148, 1.641], with the actor effect being about twice the partner effect, indicating a mixed pattern. Conclusion: There is a significant mutual influence between the negative emotions and quality of life of patients and their caregivers. Healthcare professionals should analyze the relationship between negative emotions and quality of life of both parties as a whole and provide corresponding nursing support.
