Effect of Hot Compress敷 Combined with Abdominal Massage on Constipation Symptoms and Quality of Life in Patients After Thoracolumbar Fracture Surgery
Abstract：Objective: To observe the effect of hot compress combined with abdominal massage on constipation symptoms and quality of life in patients after thoracolumbar fracture surgery. Methods: A total of 86 patients with postoperative constipation after thoracolumbar fracture admitted to the hospital from October 2021 to December 2023 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into observation group and control group, with 43 cases in each group. The control group received abdominal massage, while the observation group received hot compress in addition to abdominal massage, for a continuous intervention of 7 days. The clinical efficacy, gastrointestinal function (time of first flatus, time of first defecation, number of defecations within 7 days of intervention), constipation symptoms [Wexner Constipation Score (WCS)], and quality of life [PAC-QOL] were compared between the two groups. Results: After intervention, the total effective rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). The time of first flatus and first defecation in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group (P < 0.05), and the number of defecations within 7 days was more than that in the control group (P < 0.05). After intervention, both groups showed reduced WCS and PAC-QOL scores, with the observation group having lower scores than the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The application of hot compress combined with abdominal massage in patients after thoracolumbar fracture surgery has a better effect, which can effectively promote the recovery of gastrointestinal function, improve constipation symptoms, and enhance the quality of life.
