Application of a PICC Continuity Nursing Program Based on the 'Structure-Process-Outcome' Three-Dimensional Quality Evaluation Model in a Specialized Nursing Network
Abstract:Objective: To explore the application effect of a PICC continuity nursing program based on the theoretical framework of the 'Structure-Process-Outcome' three-dimensional quality evaluation model in a specialized nursing network. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to select 152 patients who had undergone PICC catheter placement for chemotherapy and had the catheter removed within the same year as the study subjects. Patients admitted between January and June 2021 (72 cases) were assigned to the control group, while those admitted between January and June 2022 (80 cases) were assigned to the experimental group. Both groups received PICC catheter chemotherapy and performed catheter maintenance through the PICC maintenance network during treatment intervals. The control group received routine continuity nursing, while the experimental group received continuity nursing based on the 'Structure-Process-Outcome' three-dimensional quality evaluation model. The incidence of catheter-related complications, patients' self-management ability of the PICC catheter, and patient satisfaction with continuity nursing services were compared between the two groups. Results: The incidence of catheter-related complications in the experimental group was lower than that in the control group (P<0.05). The scores for patients' self-management ability of the PICC catheter and their evaluation of continuity nursing service quality were higher in the experimental group than in the control group (P<0.05). Conclusion: Providing continuity nursing based on the 'Structure-Process-Outcome' three-dimensional quality evaluation model for PICC patients who are discharged and receive catheter maintenance through the maintenance network is convenient for patients, ensures the quality of maintenance, and improves patients' self-management ability and their evaluation of continuity nursing services.
