The Effect of Empowerment Education on Fatigue and Hopelessness Levels in Patients with Advanced Cancer
Abstract:Objective: To analyze the effect of empowerment education on the fatigue status and levels of hopelessness in patients with advanced cancer. Methods: A convenience sampling method was used to select 76 patients with advanced cancer admitted to the hospital from January to December 2023. To avoid contamination effects, 38 patients who met the inclusion criteria from January to June 2023 were selected as the control group, and 38 patients who met the inclusion criteria from July to December 2023 were selected as the experimental group. The control group received traditional educational interventions, while the experimental group received empowerment education in addition to the traditional intervention. Both groups received interventions for 2 months. The fatigue status and levels of hopelessness of the two groups were compared before and after the intervention. Results: There was no statistically significant difference in fatigue status and levels of hopelessness between the two groups before the intervention (P > 0.05). After the intervention, the scores of fatigue status and levels of hopelessness in the experimental group were lower than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Empowerment education can improve the fatigue status of patients with advanced cancer and reduce their levels of hopelessness.
