Abstract:Objective: To explore the application effect of modified Kusen decoction cold compress nursing in patients with pruritus caused by cholestatic liver disease. Methods: A total of 80 patients with pruritus caused by cholestatic liver disease admitted to the hospital from January to June 2023 were selected as the study subjects and randomly divided into control group and observation group, each with 40 cases. Both groups received routine skin and psychological care. The control group was treated with calamine lotion cold compress nursing, while the observation group was treated with modified Kusen decoction cold compress nursing. The severity of pruritus, degree and area of skin lesions, time to relieve itching, and time for lesion improvement were recorded. The efficacy, sleep quality [Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI)], and quality of life [Chronic Liver Disease Questionnaire (CLDQ)] were compared between the two groups. Results: After intervention, the severity of pruritus and the degree of skin lesions in the observation group were milder than those in the control group, and the area of skin lesions was smaller (P < 0.05). The time to relieve itching and the time for lesion improvement in the observation group were shorter (P < 0.05). The efficacy of the observation group was better than that of the control group (P < 0.05). The PSQI score of the observation group was lower than that of the control group, and the dimensions of fatigue, activity ability, emotional function, and anxiety in quality of life were higher in the observation group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Modified Kusen decoction cold compress nursing can effectively alleviate the severity of pruritus in patients with cholestatic liver disease, improve the degree and area of skin lesions, and enhance the sleep quality and quality of life of patients. It has a higher effectiveness compared to conventional calamine lotion cold compress.
