Evidence-Based Practice for Perioperative Blood Glucose Management in Patients with Coronary Heart Disease and Diabetes Mellitus Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)
Abstract:Objective: To summarize the evidence-based practices for perioperative blood glucose management in patients with coronary heart disease and diabetes mellitus undergoing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), apply the evidence to clinical practice, and evaluate its effectiveness. Methods: Following the JBI Evidence-Based Healthcare Center model, 17 pieces of best evidence were summarized and 11 clinical review indicators were developed. A quality review was conducted in the cardiology ward, comparing the compliance rate of nursing review indicators, knowledge level of blood glucose management, and accuracy of low blood glucose assessment and handling before and after the implementation of evidence-based practice. Results: After the evidence-based practice, the scores of nurses' knowledge assessment on perioperative blood glucose management increased from (74.76±12.62) before the practice to (85.51±11.66) after the practice (t=-3.188, P=0.002). Except for review indicator 6, the compliance rates of the other 10 indicators significantly improved (P<0.05). The accuracy of nurses' assessment and handling of hypoglycemia also improved compared to before the practice. Conclusion: Implementing evidence-based practice for perioperative blood glucose management in patients with coronary heart disease and diabetes mellitus undergoing PCI effectively promoted the application of evidence. The implementation of the evidence-based practice plan significantly improved nurses' blood glucose management skills, compliance with review indicators, and accuracy in assessing and managing hypoglycemia.
