Application of Occupational Therapy Based on the PERMA Model of Well-Being in Patients with Disability After Stroke
Abstract:Objective: To explore the effect of occupational therapy based on the PERMA model of well-being on patients with disability after stroke. Methods: A total of 70 patients with disability after stroke who were hospitalized in the rehabilitation department of a tertiary hospital in Henan Province from February to December 2021 were selected and randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group. The control group received conventional occupational therapy, while the experimental group received occupational therapy based on the PERMA model, for 35 minutes per session, once daily, five times a week, for four weeks. Before and after the intervention, the activities of daily living (Barthel Index, BI), occupational performance (Comprehensive Occupational Therapy Evaluation Scale, COTE), and subjective well-being (Index of Well-Being, IWB) were evaluated in both groups. Results: After the intervention, the BI score, IWB scores in all dimensions, and total score of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group (P < 0.05), while the COTE score was lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05). Conclusion: Occupational therapy based on the PERMA model has a positive therapeutic effect on patients with disability after stroke, which can improve their ability to perform daily activities, occupational performance, and subjective well-being.
