Research Progress of Intelligent Nursing Robots in Elderly Care
Abstract:Recent data shows that by 2050, the elderly population is expected to reach a peak of 487 million, accounting for 34.9% of the total population, meaning one out of every three people will be an elder [1]. In the context of 'low birth rate and aging society,' how to cope with the rapidly growing care challenges has become a pressing issue in China. As a new type of medical auxiliary equipment, robots are powerful assistants in improving the quality of life for the elderly, helping to reduce medical costs, improve the efficiency of health care services [2], and alleviate the burden on caregivers. Nursing robots are defined as machines that are partially or fully autonomous and perform care-related activities for individuals with physical and/or mental disabilities due to age and/or health limitations [3]. This study introduces the current status of using intelligent robots for elderly care both domestically and internationally, analyzes the limitations, and presents future prospects to empower the vision of precise and intelligent elderly care.
