Comparison of the Application of Super Ceramic Inlay and Metal Prefabricated Crown in the Repair of Extensive Dental Defects in Primary Molars of Children
Abstract:Objective: To compare the application of super ceramic inlay and metal prefabricated crown in the treatment of extensive dental defects in primary molars of children. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 92 children with extensive dental defects in primary molars treated at Puyang Maternal and Child Health Hospital from July 2020 to July 2021, involving a total of 110 affected teeth. The patients were divided into two groups based on the different restoration methods: Group A (46 cases, metal prefabricated crown restoration) and Group B (46 cases, super ceramic inlay restoration). The effects of restoration integrity, marginal adaptation, and gingival response were compared between the two groups at 6 months, 1 year, and 2 years after restoration. Results: At 6 months post-restoration, there were no statistically significant differences between the two groups in terms of restoration integrity and marginal adaptation (χ2=0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, P>0.05). At 1 year post-restoration, the proportion of A-grade results for restoration integrity and marginal adaptation in Group B was higher than that in Group A, but the differences were not statistically significant (χ2=0, 4.182, 0.618, 1.378, 3.384, 2.352, P>0.05). At 2 years post-restoration, the proportion of A-grade results for restoration integrity, marginal adaptation, etc., in Group B was significantly higher than that in Group A, with statistically significant differences (χ2=7.180, 11.220, 8.364, 13.461, 8.364, P<0.05). Conclusion: When repairing extensive dental defects in primary molars of children, super ceramic inlay restoration shows better outcomes in terms of restoration integrity, marginal adaptation, gingival response, and secondary caries compared to metal prefabricated crown restoration, demonstrating high clinical value. However, regardless of the chosen restoration method, clinicians should follow standardized guidelines, inform the children and their families about precautions, and conduct regular follow-ups after the restoration.
