Occurrence Characteristics and Integrated Pest Management Measures of Major Diseases and Pests in Cotton in the Yangtze River Basin in 2025
Abstract:Systematic field surveys were conducted in 2025 in major cotton-growing areas of the Yangtze River Basin (including Xiangyang City, Jingzhou City, Huanggang City, Wuhan City in Hubei Province, Anqing City in Anhui Province, Jiujiang City in Jiangxi Province, etc.) to monitor the distribution and occurrence patterns of major diseases and pests such as Verticillium wilt, Fusarium wilt, Rhizoctonia solani, cotton bollworm, silverleaf whitefly, beet armyworm, and spider mites. The results showed that Rhizoctonia solani was the main disease during the seedling stage, with a diseased plant rate of 2%–8%. Verticillium wilt became the dominant disease during the adult plant stage, with a diseased plant rate of 3%–15%, and the incidence in continuous cropping fields was significantly higher than that in rotated fields. Fusarium wilt occurred less severely, with a diseased plant rate of 1%–3%. In terms of insect pests, cotton bollworm and silverleaf whitefly were the dominant pests, with a density of 12–25 individuals per hundred plants for cotton bollworm and a infestation rate of 60%–90% for silverleaf whitefly. Beet armyworm and spider mites had relatively mild occurrences overall. Based on these findings, an integrated pest management strategy combining agricultural control, physical killing, biological control, and precise chemical control is proposed to promote the green and sustainable development of the cotton industry in the Yangtze River Basin. This study provides practical evidence for accurate pest management and ecological safety in the region.
