Preliminary Report on the Trial of Rice-Duck Co-cultivation in Jiande City, Zhejiang Province
Abstract:To study the ecological benefits of the rice-duck co-cultivation model, a field experiment was conducted in Lingxi Village, Hangtou Town, Jiande City, from 2023 to 2024. The experiment used the 'Yongyou 15' rice variety and Shaoxing ducklings, and set up three treatments: rice-duck co-cultivation, chemical control, and a control group. The occurrence of pests, diseases, and weeds, as well as the population dynamics of natural enemies, were monitored. The results showed that the rice-duck co-cultivation model achieved control rates of 82.8% for brown planthoppers, 90.9% for rice leaf rollers, and 80.6% for rice stem borers. It also achieved control rates of 93.4% for adult golden apple snails and 89.1% for their egg masses, with a control rate of 84.3% for weeds. Moreover, it significantly promoted the population growth of natural enemies, with an increase of 95.2%. The rice-duck co-cultivation model can effectively control pests, diseases, and weeds in rice fields, protect natural enemies, and help maintain ecological balance in rice fields. It is recommended for promotion and application.
