Current Situation of Termite Infestation and Control Strategies for the Ancient Architecture of Ciyun Temple in Huai'an
Abstract:Termites (Isoptera) are one of the five major pests in the world. They are ancient social insects that feed on cellulose and hemicellulose in plants, seriously threatening the structural safety of wooden buildings. The key cultural relics protection unit in Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province, Ciyun Temple, has many wooden structure buildings, and termite infestation seriously threatens its structural safety and historical value. This paper analyzes the status and causes of termite infestation in Ciyun Temple through field investigation. The results show that the existing termites in Ciyun Temple are Reticulitermes flaviceps and Reticulitermes chinensis, which are mainly found in the wooden components of the main hall, with an infestation level rated as Grade I; warm and humid climate and complex wooden structures are the main causes. Based on existing experience and technical methods for termite control in ancient buildings, this study proposes targeted termite control strategies for Ciyun Temple, including introducing intelligent monitoring systems and applying environmentally friendly prevention technologies. This research provides theoretical and technical references for effective control of termite infestation in similar ancient buildings and long-term protection of cultural heritage.
