Toxicity of Chlorfenapyr and Phoxim to Silkworms and Toxicity Assessment of Their Effect on Mulberry Caterpillar in the Laboratory
Abstract:This study determined the toxicity of two insecticides, chlorfenapyr and phoxim, to silkworms and the toxic effect on mulberry caterpillars. The results showed that the LC50 of chlorfenapyr for 2nd instar silkworms after 24 h of poisoning was 1,508.407 mg/L, which is low toxicity and moderate risk; the LC50 of phoxim for 2nd instar silkworms after 24 h of poisoning was 1.496 mg/L, which is highly toxic and extremely risky. The toxicity of chlorfenapyr against 2nd and 4th instar mulberry caterpillars was lower than that of phoxim, but after 48 h of treatment with chlorfenapyr, the corrected mortality rate of mulberry caterpillars reached more than 70.00%. It is recommended that chlorfenapyr can be considered as an alternative pesticide for the control of mulberry caterpillars.
