Identification and Gene Mapping of the Rice Mutant oswnl1 with White and Narrow Leaves
Abstract:The rice leaf is an important organ for photosynthesis in rice, and more than 90% of the photosynthetic products come from it. Changes in leaf shape, color, and size can affect the photosynthetic efficiency of rice and the yield and quality of rice grains. This study explored the agronomic traits and the mechanism of phenotypic formation of the mutant oswnl1. The results showed that compared with the wild type, the mutant oswnl1 had a shorter plant height, fewer crown roots, and leaves showing a white and narrow phenomenon; the chlorophyll content in the leaves of the mutant oswnl1 and agronomic traits such as tiller number, panicle length, 1000-grain weight, number of grains per panicle, primary branch number, and secondary branch number were all lower compared to the wild type; the target gene of the mutant oswnl1 was mapped between SH-5 and SH-9 on chromosome 7. The research results provide a theoretical basis for understanding the molecular mechanisms of white and narrow leaves in rice.
