Empirical Study on Agricultural Carbon Emission Reduction through Mechanization
Abstract:Agricultural mechanization is the core engine driving the development of agricultural modernization. Investigating the impact mechanism of agricultural mechanization on agricultural carbon emissions is of great significance for promoting the transformation of green and low-carbon agriculture and achieving sustainable agricultural development. Based on panel data from 13 cities (prefectures) in Hubei Province from 2012 to 2022, this study uses a fixed-effects model to examine the effect of agricultural mechanization on agricultural carbon emissions. The findings show that improving the level of agricultural mechanization can significantly reduce agricultural carbon emissions. Therefore, it is recommended that regions accelerate the process of full-scale and comprehensive agricultural mechanization, strengthen the research and development as well as promotion of green and low-carbon agricultural machinery equipment, and popularize efficient and energy-saving agricultural machinery technology to fully leverage the positive role of agricultural mechanization in agricultural carbon emission reduction.
