Diagnosis and Treatment of a Case of Perineal Hernia in a Dog
Abstract:Perineal hernia in dogs is a type of hernia caused by damage to the muscle tissue in the pelvic region, leading to the protrusion of pelvic and abdominal tissues or organs. This article presents a case of a 6-year-old male Poodle with perineal hernia, combining clinical examination, hematological and imaging assessments to systematically identify the causes and provide a treatment plan. The results showed that the dog was diagnosed with severe perineal hernia, accompanied by constipation, bladder prolapse, and secondary hepatic injury. Through surgical repair of the perineum, combined with a comprehensive treatment plan including antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and nutritional support, the dog recovered well. This article thoroughly analyzes the pathologic associations of various systemic lesions, discusses the diagnostic and therapeutic challenges of multi-system comorbidities in elderly dogs, and proposes optimized management strategies based on relevant literature, providing reference for the treatment of similar clinical cases.
