Discussion on the Preventive and Therapeutic Effects of Astragalus Polysaccharide on Avian Colibacillosis
Abstract:To evaluate the preventive and therapeutic effects of astragalus polysaccharide on avian colibacillosis, this experiment selected 80 healthy meat chickens with similar conditions, randomly divided into 5 groups, with 4 replicates per group and 5 chickens per replicate. The groups were set as the control group, infected group, and treatment groups (low-dose astragalus polysaccharide group, medium-dose astragalus polysaccharide group, and high-dose astragalus polysaccharide group). The control group was fed only with basal diet, while other groups were intraperitoneally inoculated with 1×10^6 CFU of E. coli bacterial suspension. On the third day after inoculation, the treatment groups were gavaged with astragalus polysaccharide solution at doses of 1, 2, and 4 mL/kg, respectively, for 5 consecutive days. In vitro experimental results showed that the minimum inhibitory concentration of astragalus polysaccharide against E. coli was 31.25 μg/mL. In vivo experimental results showed that after artificial infection with E. coli, the diarrhea rate in the infected group reached 100%, and the mortality rate reached 50%. After gavage with astragalus polysaccharide, the diarrhea and mortality rates in the treatment groups were significantly lower than those in the infected group, and the therapeutic effect improved with increasing dosage of astragalus polysaccharide. In conclusion, astragalus polysaccharide has a significant preventive and therapeutic effect on avian colibacillosis. This study provides a reference for the application of astragalus polysaccharide in the prevention and treatment of colibacillosis.
