Effect of Dandelion Extract on the Growth Performance of Weaned Piglets
Abstract:This experiment aimed to investigate the effect of adding different levels of dandelion extract in the diet on the growth performance of weaned piglets, to determine the optimal addition level in the production of weaned piglets. A total of 240 weaned piglets at 21 days of age were selected and divided into 4 groups according to a single-factor experimental design, with 6 replicates per group and 10 piglets per replicate. The weaned piglets in each group were fed with experimental diets made by adding 0, 250, 500, and 1,000 mg/kg of dandelion extract to the basal diet. The trial included a 1-week pre-trial period and a 6-week main trial period. The results showed that compared with the control group, adding 500 mg/kg of dandelion extract significantly increased the final body weight (P < 0.05) and average daily gain (P < 0.05), and significantly reduced the feed-to-gain ratio (P < 0.05). The study found that adding 500 mg/kg of dandelion extract in the diet of weaned piglets had the best effect.
