Effect of Ginger Extract on the Immune Function of Weaned Piglets
Abstract:This experiment aimed to study the effect of adding different levels of ginger extract to the diet on the serum immune indicators of 'Duroc × Landrace × Yorkshire' three-way crossbred weaned piglets, and to determine the feasibility of ginger extract in improving the immunity of piglets. The study used a single-factor experimental design, selecting 128 healthy 21-day-old weaned piglets, randomly divided into 4 groups, with 4 replicates per group and 8 piglets per replicate. The control group was fed a basal diet, while the experimental groups 1, 2, and 3 were fed diets supplemented with 0.5%, 1.0%, and 2.0% (mass fraction) of ginger extract, respectively. The pre-trial period was 1 week, and the main trial lasted 6 weeks. The results showed that compared with the control group, the levels of immunoglobulin G, interleukin 10, and interleukin 4 in the serum of the experimental groups 2 and 3 were significantly increased (P < 0.05), while the level of interleukin 6 in the serum of all experimental groups was significantly decreased (P < 0.05). The study indicates that adding an appropriate amount of ginger extract to the diet can effectively improve the intestinal health and immune function of weaned piglets. Under the conditions of this experiment, the optimal addition level of ginger extract was 1.0% (mass fraction).
