Isolation, Identification and Drug Resistance Analysis of Salmonella in Poultry Farms and Free-Range Chicken Flocks in Tianshui City
Abstract:To understand the infection situation of Salmonella in dead chicks in poultry farms in Tianshui City and the drug resistance characteristics of the prevalent strains, providing references for the prevention and control of Salmonella disease in this area. This study collected 187 tissue samples, including liver, blood, and kidney tissues from dead chicks in large-scale poultry farms and free-range chicken flocks in Tianshui City from 2023 to 2024. Salmonella was identified using bacterial isolation and biochemical identification methods, and drug sensitivity tests were performed on the isolates using the K-B disk agar diffusion method. The results showed that 60 strains of Salmonella were isolated, with drug resistance rates exceeding 50.0% for most antibiotics such as penicillin, amoxicillin, ampicillin, and spectinomycin. The drug resistance rates for cefotaxime and ceftiofur were 3.3% and 5.0%, respectively. The results indicate that there is a certain level of Salmonella infection in dead chicks in poultry farms in Tianshui City, and the drug resistance status of Salmonella is relatively severe. This study can provide references for the comprehensive prevention and control of Salmonella disease in large-scale poultry farms and free-range chicken flocks in this area.
