Application Study of Digital Monitoring of Cough Sounds in Growing Pigs in Fattening Houses
Abstract:This experiment aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of digital monitoring equipment in monitoring cough sounds of growing pigs in actual production and its practicality in preventing and controlling respiratory diseases. Six fattening houses were selected for both early and late fattening stages. Sound monitoring devices were used to record cough sounds and calculate cough indices to reflect the health status of the pig herds. The results showed that digital monitoring equipment successfully achieved the monitoring of cough sounds in growing pigs and the early warning and control of respiratory diseases. The cough index of the early fattening stage ranged from 0.19 to 2.48, with house number 18 showing a lower cough index and higher herd health level, while house number 22 showed a higher cough index and lower herd health level. The variation in cough index was consistent between the early and late fattening stages. In the late fattening stage, the cough index was lower than that in the early stage, and the changes were all below 1.00. When an abnormal increase in the cough index was detected, timely mist medication could effectively prevent the further development of respiratory diseases in the pig herd, with an effective rate of 75.9% within 5 days.
