Comparative Study on the Effect of Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine in Treating Diarrhea in Laying Hens
Abstract:To compare the effects of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine in treating diarrhea in laying hens, this experiment selected 90 laying hens with diarrhea from a chicken farm and randomly divided them into 3 groups, with 30 hens in each group. The traditional Chinese medicine group was treated with a combination of herbs such as Scutellaria baicalensis, Coptis chinensis, and Astragalus membranaceus, while the antibiotic group was treated with antibiotics. The control group received no treatment for 7 consecutive days. The results showed that the cure rates of the traditional Chinese medicine group and the antibiotic group were 83.33% and 70.00%, respectively, with effective rates of 90.00% and 80.00%. The mortality rate was only 3.33% and 6.67%, which was reduced by 43.34% and 40.00% compared to the control group. Compared with the control group, the levels of immunoglobulin A (IgA) and IgG in the serum of the traditional Chinese medicine group increased significantly (P < 0.05). The levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and IL-1β in the serum of both the traditional Chinese medicine group and the antibiotic group decreased significantly (P < 0.05), and the efficacy of the traditional Chinese medicine group was better. In conclusion, both traditional Chinese and Western medicine have good effects in treating diarrhea in laying hens, but the efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine is superior to that of antibiotics.
