The Effect of Tea Tree Essential Oil on the Immune Function of Piglets
Abstract:To investigate the effect of adding different doses of tea tree essential oil to the diet on the serum immune indicators of piglets and determine the appropriate addition level of tea tree essential oil, this experiment selected 60 healthy weaned piglets at 28 days of age, randomly divided into 4 groups, with 3 replicates per group and 5 pigs per replicate. The control group was fed a basal diet, while the experimental groups 1, 2, and 3 were fed experimental diets formulated by adding 100, 200, and 400 mg/kg of tea tree essential oil to the basal diet, respectively. The pre-test period was 7 days, and the main test period was 42 days. The results showed that compared with the control group, the content of immunoglobulin A and interleukin-10 in the serum of piglets in group 2 increased significantly (P < 0.05), while the content of interleukin-6 decreased significantly (P < 0.05). The content of immunoglobulin G in the serum of piglets fed tea tree essential oil was significantly increased (P < 0.05). The study shows that adding an appropriate amount of tea tree essential oil to the diet of weaned piglets can enhance their immunity, and the suitable addition level of tea tree essential oil is 200 mg/kg.
