Analysis and Suggestions on the Current Layout of Regional Automatic Weather Stations in Guangdong Province
Abstract:To scientifically plan and optimize the layout of meteorological stations, this study analyzes the current layout of regional automatic weather stations (including temperature, precipitation, humidity, air pressure, wind speed, and wind direction) in Guangdong Province and its cities using the methods of average station spacing and grid coverage, combined with the WMOOSCAR tool. Based on the findings, optimization suggestions are proposed. The results show that regarding element distribution, the average station spacing for air pressure and humidity in Guangdong's regional automatic weather stations is significantly different from the breakthrough indicators of high-resolution numerical forecasting, with many blank grids. In the future, the layout of regional automatic weather stations should focus on densifying observations of air pressure and humidity to fill the observation gaps. Regarding spatial distribution, the regional automatic weather stations are unevenly distributed, with lower grid coverage in the northwest of eastern Guangdong. There is a certain gap between each element and the breakthrough indicators for short-term forecasting or high-resolution numerical forecasting. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen the layout of regional automatic weather stations in the northwest of eastern Guangdong.
