Analysis of Meteorological Conditions Leading to Reduced Lychee Production in Dongguan in 2024
Abstract:In order to improve lychee meteorological services, based on the meteorological and phenological observation data from the national basic meteorological stations in Dongguan from July 2023 to June 2024, this study used a comparative analysis method to investigate the impact of meteorological conditions on the reduced lychee production in Dongguan in 2024. The results show that during the nutritional growth and development period, higher temperatures and more precipitation led to excessive vegetative growth of lychee trees. During the flower bud differentiation period, insufficient low temperatures, temperature fluctuations, and high temperatures before and after the appearance of 'white spots' caused a reversal in flowering, preventing the completion of flower bud differentiation. During the flowering period, continuous heavy rainfall and prolonged rainy weather washed away large amounts of pollen, which was not conducive to the budding, flowering, and pollen germination of lychees, thus reducing the flowering and fruit setting rate. During the fruit growth and maturation period, there were multiple instances of heavy rainfall and short-term strong winds with wind force ≥7 levels, leading to the falling or breaking of young fruits and weak branches due to wind and rain, causing serious physiological and mechanical fruit drop.
