Climate Adaptability and Advantages of Cultivating Macrobrachium rosenbergii in Zhaoqing
Abstract:In order to provide meteorological services for the cultivation of Macrobrachium rosenbergii, based on the climatic characteristics of Macrobrachium rosenbergii, this study selected temperature data from six national meteorological observation stations in Zhaoqing from 1991 to 2020 to analyze the climate adaptability and advantages of cultivating Macrobrachium rosenbergii. The results show that temperature is the main meteorological factor affecting the cultivation of Macrobrachium rosenbergii in Zhaoqing. The suitable breeding period for Macrobrachium rosenbergii in Zhaoqing is from April to October. The earliest time for seedling stocking in spring is after mid-April (high requirement should be after mid-April, Huaiji, Fengkai, and Deqing should be after mid-May, Guangning and Sihui should be after mid-May), and the appropriate stocking period is after mid-May. The harvest period in autumn is from early to mid-October, and the latest should be completed by early November (Huaiji, Guangning, Fengkai, and Sihui by late October, Deqing and Gaoyao by early November). The overwintering period starts from early to mid-October and ends by mid-May (Gaoyao by mid-April, Huaiji, Deqing, and Fengkai by mid-May, Guangning and Sihui by mid-May). Cultivating Macrobrachium rosenbergii during the overwintering period has the advantages of mature technology and stable market demand. Especially in winter, when the supply of seasonal shrimp decreases, the market demand for Macrobrachium rosenbergii may increase, helping farmers obtain better sales prices during the overwintering period. However, due to low temperatures during the overwintering period, there are disadvantages such as disease risks, higher costs, and management difficulties. It is necessary to focus on measures such as insulation, controlling breeding density, water disinfection, and sufficient aeration, and to sell at the right time. In addition to the impact of low temperatures on the cultivation of Macrobrachium rosenbergii, high summer temperatures can also cause shrimp to float, so scientific feeding, enhanced water quality management, strengthened disease prevention, and increased pond inspections are needed to ensure safe cultivation.
