The Impact and Characteristics of Rainfall on Fluctuations in Pedestrian Flow
Abstract:To reveal the mechanism of how rainfall affects fluctuations in urban pedestrian flow, this study uses real-time mobile phone signaling and meteorological data, taking the Tianhe Overpass in Guangzhou as a case study. By applying the ARIMA model to calculate the baseline pedestrian flow and combining it with the K-means clustering method to classify rainfall levels, a corresponding relationship between rainfall volume and pedestrian flow fluctuations was established. The impact and characteristics of rainfall on pedestrian flow fluctuations were analyzed through the fluctuation rate of pedestrian flow. The results show that rainy weather has a significant impact on pedestrian flow fluctuations during morning and evening peak hours. When the hourly rainfall exceeds 20 mm during the morning peak or 10 mm during the evening peak, people tend to be滞留 (stagnate).
