Characteristics of Greenhouse Gas Concentration Changes in Foshan City and Their Relationship with Meteorological Factors
Abstract:To reveal the variation characteristics of greenhouse gas concentrations in Foshan City, this study used high-precision greenhouse gas concentration data from the Nanshan Greenhouse Gas Observation Station in Foshan, atmospheric pollutant monitoring data, and ground meteorological observation data. It analyzed the daily, monthly, and seasonal differences in the concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO2) and methane (CH4) in Foshan from November 2023 to October 2024, and explored their relationship with meteorological factors. The results showed that: (1) The annual average concentrations of CO2 and CH4 in Foshan in 2024 were higher than the global average, at 452.8 × 10^-6 and 2,274.6 × 10^-9, respectively. Both CO2 and CH4 showed a unimodal daily variation pattern, with peak values around 07:00 and trough values between 16:00 and 17:00. The daily variation patterns of CO2 and CH4 differed across seasons. (2) CO2 and CH4 have some common sources; among other pollutants, CO and NO2 showed the highest correlation with CO2 and CH4. The correlation between CO2 and PM2.5 was significantly higher than that between CO2 and PM10, while the correlation between CH4 and PM10 was significantly higher than that between CH4 and PM2.5. (3) Meteorological factors such as temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed had a significant impact on the concentrations of CO2 and CH4. Specifically, the concentrations of CO2 and CH4 were negatively correlated with temperature and wind speed, and positively correlated with relative humidity, with particularly obvious correlations in summer.
