Ozone Pollution Weather Typing and Potential Source Area Analysis in Qingyuan City
Abstract:To provide a reference for the refined control of atmospheric pollution, this study used hourly air quality monitoring data and related meteorological data from Qingyuan City from 2016 to 2021. Based on the subjective weather typing method, backward trajectory model, and statistical methods, it summarized the meteorological element characteristics and potential source area features of different ozone (O3) pollution weather types in Qingyuan City. The results showed that under high-temperature and sunny weather conditions with more than 6 hours of sunshine, maximum temperature above 32°C, average relative humidity between 45% and 85%, and average wind speed less than or equal to 3 m·s-1, O3 pollution is likely to occur in Qingyuan. Typical weather types causing O3 pollution in Qingyuan include the typhoon periphery type (22.1%), the subtropical high pressure control type (16.8%), the subtropical high pressure combined with typhoon periphery type (13.8%), the ridge-back trough-front type (14.3%), and the modified high-pressure ridge type (12.6%). Among these, the typhoon periphery type, subtropical high pressure control type, and subtropical high pressure combined with typhoon periphery type are the main weather types causing O3 pollution in Qingyuan during summer and autumn, while the ridge-back trough-front type and modified high-pressure ridge type are the main weather types causing O3 pollution in Qingyuan during spring. The weak high-pressure ridge type is the typical weather type causing O3 pollution in Qingyuan during winter. The main airflow transmission channels for O3 pollution in Qingyuan are three categories: southeast direction (64.59%), north-east direction (22.98%), and southwest direction (12.43%), among which the southeast direction is the main transmission path affecting O3 pollution in Qingyuan. The main potential source areas for O3 pollution are located in the urban area of Qingyuan and regions such as Foshan, Guangzhou, Jiangmen, Dongguan, Huizhou, and Shaoguan, mainly affecting the urban area of Qingyuan through local accumulation and short-distance airflow transport.
