Ozone Pollution Meteorological Condition Index in Shenzhen City
Abstract:Based on meteorological data from the Shenzhen National Climate Observation Station and air quality data from the Shenzhen Environmental Monitoring Station from 2018 to 2023, using correlation analysis, dimensionless threshold, and multiple regression methods, an Ozone (O3) pollution meteorological condition index (OMI) was constructed for Shenzhen. A monitoring and forecasting product was developed, which has been operating well. The results show that: (1) Nine meteorological factors were selected from three aspects of O3 generation, diffusion, and removal. Among them, average temperature, maximum temperature, hours of sunshine, and weak wind hours are positively correlated with O3 mass concentration; ground wind speed, boundary layer wind speed, precipitation, and relative humidity are negatively correlated with O3 mass concentration. A dimensionless meteorological factor for O3 pollution was constructed using the dimensionless threshold method. (2) Using multiple linear regression, weight coefficients for the nine factors were obtained, and then the O3 pollution meteorological condition index (OMI) was constructed, which can quantitatively indicate the comprehensive meteorological conditions for O3 pollution. Through testing, the OMI shows good indication of O3 pollution, with accurate indication rates for different pollution levels ranging from 60.6% to 91.2%. (3) Combined with the GIFT grid forecast product of Guangdong Province, a 10-day OMI product was developed to provide risk reminders for O3 pollution, offering an objective potential forecast product for O3 pollution forecasting, which has been operating well.
